China's coal basins have total coalbed methane resources of up to 30 to 35 trillion cubic meters (more than
one thousand TCF) of methane, and its gassiest coal mines liberate 9
billion cubic meters (320 BCF) of methane annually. The opportunities for
developing coal mine methane and coalbed methane (CMM/CBM) in China are
tremendous, especially given the nation's growing demand for clean energy and
the government's focus on CMM/CBM development.
This
Symposium is the culmination of more than two years of joint effort by the China
State Administration of Coal Mine Safety Supervision and U.S. EPA to identify
and market the best opportunities for CMM development in China. This joint
project has identified eight coal mining companies that are especially favorable
in terms of CMM/CBM resource and market potential.
With the Asian Development Bank's
(ADB) recent agreement to allocate substantial funding to finance CMM/CBM projects
in China, opportunities for project
development have never been better.
The
Symposium will feature presentations and discussions on investment
opportunities, developments in technology and infrastructure,
and financing and policy issues.
